What is Composite Decking?
Composite decking refers to deck boards made from recycled hard wood and plastic OR of 100% polymer material (PVC). Composite deck boards can be partially or fully encapsulated — meaning a 3- or 4-sided cap. Unlike traditional wood, most composite deck boards feature a structural layer of protection: the outer capping. The fasteners used for installation of the main composite decking are usually hidden fasteners, shaped like a ‘T’ which are inserted between 2 boards that have grooves in them and are attached to the treated pine wood joists. Sometimes our installers use a special angled tool to install the fasteners at a steep angle at the corners of the PVC decking which hides them as well. In either case, you will not see any decking screws like the older wooden decks.
