This White Bear Township deck installation project was a complete removal and replacement with a smaller deck. The main challenge is that the old deck was a ground-level deck, and you never know what you’re going to find in terms of a ledger board and footings. In this case, we had an old ledger attached to old concrete masonry units along with a cantilevered patio door bump-out, neither of which we could attach a ledger board to. Therefore, we had to install footings and a drop beam up against the house for structural support.
Moreover, the homeowner’s concerns about potential rot and rodent access areas were taken seriously. We proactively installed insulation and replaced some OSB sheathing before continuing with the deck. The footings, consisting of Diamond Pier DP50s, were installed after these structural components and the framing inspection by the city was approved. We then proceeded to finish the framing, decking, and railing.
The main decking and drink rail are Timbertech Natural White Oak with Westbury C-10 railings. From start to finish, this White Bear Township deck installation took a total of five working days by our experienced foreman, Sir Charles. Great job, Chuck!
